Developmental screening provides a quick check of your child’s development through a series of questions. The information you supply will identify your child’s strengths and will determine if your child is progressing as expected. Developmental Screening will help Colonial connect you to community resources or services that may be useful for your child and your family.

All Colonial families with children ages Birth-Five (before kindergarten) are encouraged to complete the two Ages and Stages Questionnaires, which are 1) the Developmental Screener and 2) the Social-Emotional Screener.  After Developmental Screening is completed, families will receive screening scores/feedback, information about Developmental Milestones, and a packet of activities describing developmentally appropriate activities that can be completed at home.

Program Description:

The Colonial Early Education Program (CEEP) is comprised of preschool aged children with and without identified disabilities, and is housed at John G. Leach School.  All preschool classes are taught by Delaware state certified early childhood educators, and all classrooms have at least one paraeducator.  All classrooms have state certified speech/language pathologists, occupational therapists, and/or physical therapists who work in the preschool classrooms. CEEP is licensed through the Delaware Office of Child Care Licensing (OCCL), and classrooms implement a developmentally appropriate educational curriculum which focuses on language, social, cognitive, fine motor, and large motor growth.  Our educators also focus on the Delaware Department of Education’s Early Learning Foundations for School Success when planning and teaching lessons.

The Colonial Early Education Program is committed to providing a safe and nurturing environment that celebrates each child’s learning potential, while developing his or her unique identity. The anticipated outcome of our program is to acquire the essential skills necessary to be successful in kindergarten and beyond.
